My Story

Shon Moore has always been driven to make a difference especially when it comes to helping others in need.  As a young man he contemplated either becoming a police officer or a Untied States soldier.  He joined the junior ROTC program in high school and mustered into the army as a second lieutenant after graduating college near the top of his class. He served 25 years in the army rising to Lieutenant Colonel.  His long service has left him at 100% disabled due to traumatic brain injury due to an IED attack as well as ongoing PTSD from watching numerous friends become disabled or lose their lives.

Shon has been recognized for his service accomplishments, during his service being awarded, among others, the Korean Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, Korea Defense Service Medal, Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Korea Duty  Medal and Purple Heart.

However, his service has exacted a toll…

full story

Shon, previously an accomplished athletic man, now struggles to tie his shoes and pull up his own pants due to the damage his body has sustained in his long service to his country. The effects of his PTSD challenge him with migraines and anxiety and reactions to loud noises, his inability to perform some simple chores around the house leave him feeling inadequate and angry with himself.  For a man who has spent his life defending and caring for others this is the cruelest of ironies.

Shon still focuses on helping others and would like to open a home based real estate business so that he can work in an environment where he can control the noise and stresses.  Shon’s Dream is to develop a veteran run community center to help other veterans reintegrate and become a productive part of their communities while supporting and healing each other.

Please join with 4VETS4LIFE and our partner veterans service organizations to help Shon accomplish his dream of building a place where other veterans and people in need can gather in a safe environment and become a productive part of their community. With your help we can provide him with the network of resources he needs for his dream to become a success.
